April 2013
Model: Monica Jalali @ Mode Models
Photography by: Boy Josh
Styled by: Binzento
Haired by: Michelle Lazo
Make-up by: Edith Savanya
A 2nd creative editorial work Binzento x Boy Josh - photographer Boy Josh took a fresh approach highlighting how a weekend is spent on Kensington Road by a hipster girl, played by Mode Model's Monica Jalali. Styled by me (Binzento), the pieces were collections all "Made in Canada" by labels like Rebecca King and MaNoKin Designs… which could be found at the Studio Intent Boutique located in Fashion Central Calgary. Make-up artist Edith Savanya focused on highlighting the beautiful feature of our model, using citron eye-shadows to complement and add edginess to the overall look. Michelle Lazo completed the story with a soft hair style to emphasize Monica's gentle personality. "Who Dat Girl" is an example of a girl who'll capture anyone's attention whether she's on a bike, window shopping, or at a coffee shop killing weekend time on the street of Kensington.

March 2013
Featuring: Binzento and Carmen Lee @ Sophia Models International
Photography by: Jordan Gooden (JG Photography)
Styling/ Creative Direction: Binzento
A Day With The Blogger - Friend and photographer Jordan Gooden of JG Photography took an interest to spend a day with me as a blogger. Capturing my ever busy on-the-go lifestyle, and trying to have fun with it at the same time. My muse of the day is none other than my friend and model of Sophia Models International, Carmen Lee, who also run a creative team called Gar&Mann:L. Carmen looked chic despite the cold March in YYC. She walked in style in the downtown area wearing pieces from Fendi, and Martin Margiela for H&M. As for me, I'm loving the lamb skin leather jacket I had that day by local designer Bano & eeMee.

March 2013
Featuring: Jim Madro
Photography by: Stuart Robinson (Insomnia Art)
Styling/ Creative Direction: Binzento
Styling/ Editing: Odessa Bennett
The Daily Cycle Of A Corporate Man - Featuring stylish pipeline engineer Jim Madro, the concept behind this creative was to highlight the daily life of a fashionable corporate gentleman. Under the lens of Stuart Robinson, the CEO of Insomnia Art, and styling by Binzento and Odessa Bennett, this editorial captured the dynamic transition of Jim from a conservative corporate Calgarian wearing classic tux, to an edgy fashionisto appreciating the aesthetics of Givenchy, Prada, and COMME des GARÇONS. And normally a stylish fellow like Jim would be enlisted in my Real People w/ Real Styles column. However I thought it was only appropriate to pull-off this editorial with him to celebrate his bold fashion sense that contradicted our conservative and business oriented city. Read further on Jim's perspective of Calgary's fashion scene below.

What kind of fashion designs inspire you?

"I’m inspired by a variety of designs but I’d say I always trend towards European designs by Givenchy, Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, and of course my favourite Canadians, Dsquared2. Whether it’s a slim fitting, Italian cut suit for work, or my favourite Balmain jeans and graphic, oversized t-shirt or sweater – I wear what suits my mood so I can have a lot of different looks.  I also tend to dress based on where I’m at in the world. Traveling provides me with inspiration as I see more progressive designs that we don’t see being worn around here. Those that know me also know that good quality shoes and boots are an essential part of any outfit and are a big inspiration for me!  Shoes will make or break an outfit."

What do you think of "men's style" in Calgary?

"I’ve seen a lot of changes in men’s style here in Calgary over the past few years – and it’s all for the good. Calgary has become a far more progressive city in a variety of aspects, and that includes men’s fashion.Walking through the +15’s on any given day demonstrates that a lot of people really do care about how they present themselves and that they’re putting some effort into how they look. In the past, the differences in how guys dressed here versus major cities of the world were huge, but that gap is closing. We’ll never be on par with the cutting edge styles from New York, London or Paris, but at least the gap is closing."

What is the most favourite thing you like about "Calgary's fashion scene" and what is the least?

"The Calgary fashion scene is really coming into it’s own. There are far more events and opportunities to have some fun with fashion and people are becoming more accepting of cutting edge style. We’ve got a lot of fun, stylish people in this city, and I’m lucky enough that so many are great friends of mine. That said, the city is still pretty conservative and there will always be those that don’t get it, but that’s not just Calgary, that’s pretty much any city in the world. While we’ve got some great stores here, I find that they tend to stock fairly conservative clothes and shoes. When I’m looking for something more cutting edge, I shop while I’m traveling or through some great online stores."

Outfits: KaaDiki, Bano & eeMee, Espy
the OUTSIDERSMode Models Joey Kirchner, Braeden Wright, and Ronnie Morris played the roles of “youths in a gang”, inspired by the S. E. Hinton’s famous 60’s novel - Outsider. Under the lens and editing of aspiring photographer Boy Josh, creative direction and styling by fashion blogger Binzento, and make-up by Elizabeth Bernardine, the classic story is modified with another retro twist – a crossover of the 90’s boy-band pop-culture. The boys were fully equipped in fashion representing Calgary including: RTW pieces by Calgarian designer KaaDiki; Leather jackets by Bano & eeMee; Additional street-comfort looks were gratefully pulled from Espy boutique. Shots were taking on a cold day, on the street of White Avenue in Edmonton.
