IMG Alum Glenn Young As The New Lead Overseeing TOM* and TW Corporate Partnerships
Canada Fashion Group (CFG) is pleased to announce that Glenn Young will oversee corporate partnerships for its upcoming fashion weeks, namely, Toronto Men's Fashion Week (TOM*) and Toronto Women's Fashion Week (TW).

"I'm excited to welcome Glenn to CFG," says Jeff Rustia, Founder and CEO of CFG and Executive Director of TOM* and TW. "His wealth of experience in business development, sponsorships and strategic partnerships will be highly valuable to our team."

Young has extensive experience in marketing, event management, experiential marketing and forging partnerships in both the profit and non-profit sectors.

Glenn was Senior Vice President, Sports, Entertainment and Media for International Management Group Canada (IMG), the country's leading sports and lifestyle marketing company. He oversaw media activity for the company's media assets and properties, and over his ten years was involved in some of Canada's largest athlete and property commercial agreements. Before his tenure at IMG, Glenn broadened his sales and marketing skills in the broadcast industry at Western International Television as Vice President, Sales and Marketing. He has held board positions with the Television Bureau of Canada, Sponsorship Marketing Council of Canada, Ireland Fund of Canada and Liquid Nutrition.

"I'm confident that Glenn will be a driving force in solidifying our growing position within the Canadian fashion landscape," added Rustia. "He will play a key role in building relationships with corporate partners who share our vision in supporting the Canadian fashion community and the next generation of talent."

"I am thrilled to be working with Jeff and his team, introducing CFG assets to corporate Canada and finding the opportunities that exist to connect consumers with the Canadian fashion industry," says Young.

CFG will host TOM* and TW this August featuring Spring/Summer 2018 collections from Canadian designers.

Coming Soon This Week: 2017 Canadian International Fashion Film Festival

The 2017 Canadian International Fashion Film Festival
(CANIFFF)

The Canadian International Fashion Film Festival (CANIFFF) returns to Calgary on May 26th to May 28th. I cannot stress how important it is to support this festival and what it means to connect Canadian talents to rest of the world. The 2nd annual event will once again create the rare opportunity within an intimate and friendly space that allows fashion talents, artists and filmmakers to connect, engage and share creative ideas.

There are over 300 submissions from 34 different countries this year. It amazes me how much and fast this festival has grown in little less than a year. Whether you’re in the industry or not, there’s bound to be at least one film that will inspire you, take you into the deeper discussion of what makes a good fashion film.

The founders of the festival, Katrina Olson-Mottahed, Rania Al-Naimi and Zai Mamdani have spent incredible amount of time and effort, traveling around the world to meet and scout some of these international fashion films for their audience. Filmmakers of various countries will come to Calgary for the first time to attend – In exchange what an honest way to share our Canadian spirits to our visitors, especially when 2017 will mark the 150th birthday of Canada.

It was an honor again to be invited as one of the programming committee members of CANIFFF. Though I will not be able to attend this year’s event, I am really excited for all the nominees of the 13 award categories, judged by a panel of fashion and film experts from across the globe. I do have a few favorites in mind, but no spoiler here – You should all check out CANIFFF to find out more info of the festival and tickets. I can assure you all that this is not your typical fashion/film event in Calgary.

The graduating students at the Regent’s University London’s fashion and design courses showcased their year-end runway project at 148 Brick Lane in London on May 11th 2017. Over 600 guests attended the runway presentation. Some of the notable attendees include fashion entrepreneur, designer and Chair of the Costume Society, Sylvia Ayton MBE, along with prestigious representatives from Monsoon, Arts Thread, Hearst and Nike amongst others. In addition, three student prizes were awarded that evening for the ‘Regent's International Fashion competition for Schools 2017,’ sponsored by Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. Winning student Vanda Volcikova from the English College in Prague, Czech Republic, saw her design professionally styled and photographed, and also received a collection of Bloomsbury fashion books. Competition runners-up were Turaya Morton-Kemsley, The Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth, UK, and Defne Uzelli from Hisar School in Turkey, who also both received Bloomsbury prizes. There were some amazing talents showcased by the students that night. We can only wait to see what these rising stars will become to drive our fashion industry in the near future.
