Let's Help Fight Against HIV/AIDS

In The Know: Splash Of Red” is a fundraiser event that is hosted by the HIV Community Link, a YYC-based organization that advocates HIV-related education and prevention. The target of this event is to help raise money as well as awareness, uniting trendsetters, influencers and thought leaders throughout the city that want to show their support to fight against HIV/AIDS.

The 2nd annual of Splash Or Red was recently held at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Calgary. Hundreds of guests showed their support by wearing red or a “splash of red” that coincided with the theme and purpose of this event. In addition to the entertaining live dance and music performances, the glamorous Mr. Terri Stevens jazzed up the stage with excitement by being the MC of the evening. There were also two silent art auction rooms, which included the work by Marion Nicoll and other artists. Splash Of Red was a success, the dedication of the team behind this event and the community will continue to empower and educate the compassionate society in the face of HIV/AIDS.

The authentic cultural experience of YYC - Market Collective gathers creative thinkers from all over the city into a public market space. Founded by two individuals, Angela Dione and Angel Guerra, who are both passionate about supporting local businesses and talents, and helping to promote growth as a community. The latest edition of this 3-day run event has occurred recently at the Chinese Cultural Centre, which attracts thousands of participants to explore the different vendors, learn about the local culture and share creative ideas of Calgary’s undiscovered talents. These talents include artists, illustrators, musicians, leather artisans and designers. It is perhaps worthwhile to mention how I felt inspired by the amazingly whimsical work-of-art that are displayed. It takes more than just having an imaginative mind, but also the practice and the craftsmanship to execute creative ideas into solid products. Inside Market Collective, you could also find local produce and food vendors of both sweet and savory, a true taste of everything Made-in-YYC.

You can find out more about the next Market Collective event and updates HERE.

Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2015

Calgary Expo 2015!

A long overdue blog post – Yikes!!

As many of you may know I’m a huge geek at heart, and not often I get to expose my inner geekiness without hesitation or with a LARGE group of people – Thanks to the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, I get to talk about comic books, Japanese anime, manga, video games and any sci-fi TV shows all weekend long and people won’t think I am crazy. Like every year, the Calgary Expo is a place to meet your favorite comic book illustrators, story tellers and of course the actors/actresses who played the characters of your favorite TV Shows.

There were couple last minute surprises, good and bad. The exciting one was perhaps the sudden appearance of Neil Patrick Harris, being his first time participating a large YYC event. The disappointment was the cancellation of Stan Lee. I’ve missed him the last couple years he attended, and I thought I could finally meet him in 2015. Other major guests at this year’s Calgary Expo include the cast from a line of DC Comics TV series such as: Arrows, Constantine and Flash. Having the expo so close to the release of the new Avengers movie, it was a nice addition to have some of the cast from Marvel TV series, Agent SHIELDS as well. Added to this year was the gaming centre inside the Big 4 building. And did I mention Cosplay yet? I did scout some really cool ones this year, but truthfully I didn’t think the creativity was as exciting as some of the ones I’d seen from prior years. Hopefully next year though – Keep it up!
