Glenbow's SCHMANCY 2015
Still Fancy, But A Little More Schmancy
(photos by: Binzento)
It's been a little over a week since I attended YYC Glenbow Museum's annual fundraiser party SCHMANCY. Each year, SCHMANCY attracts more than a thousand attendees to support Glenbow and Canadian arts and culture, raising money for the museum's future projects and exhibitions.
Bringing back to its roots to celebrate the theme of "Canadiana", it was a thrilled to have MTV's Jessi Cruickshank this year to host the gala event. Born in Calgary, Cruickshank's talent and charisma brought her to become one of Canada's sweetest and most witty TV presenters. Then there was the unbelievable throat-singing performance by Tanya Tagaq. The incrediable sounds she makes with her voice resembles the forces of nature, which is both eerie and spectacular. And finally there was the amazing poet Shane Koyczan who's powerful words captured the hearts of the entire audience.
So how fancy are people at Schmancy? The answer is: SUPER fancy~x!! Cruickshank hand-picked three people from the audience on stage to show off their Schmancy styles - Two of which are my fellow blogger BFF's, cultural/art and movie blogger KO-M and travel blogger Transnomadic. KO was wearing an emerald green feather dress by Badgley Mischka and a head piece from Anna Dello Russo for H&M collection. Transnomadic took the "Canadiana" theme to heart by wearing a vintage Canadian red military coat redesigned by my team Vinegar Designs Lab and accessorized with a gold Petit Malle bag by Louis Vuitton.
Like all of the previous Schmancies, the evening continues with the entire museum opened for guests to party. Different music are played on each floor, and activities are filled in every corner. My particular favorite was the Art Park on lower level where artworks by renowned Canadian artists are showcased. These art collections were also up for auction, in addition to the silent auction items from sponsors, to further help raise money for the Glenbow. My Vinegar Designs Lab team photographer Paul M. Lee has shot a few of these pieces held by models from The Nobles. The gents and ladies were wearing pieces from Ooh La La Womenswear and Modern Menswear both located in Calgary.

I really enjoyed Schmancy this year. No, we didn't have commercialized celeb-guests like Bryan Adams or George Strombo, but it felt more organic and natural. We felt just as inspired and had just as much fun hanging out with great people, get inspired by the artistic atmosphere and enjoy Canadian art. Despite the current downturn of our economy, it didn't stop any of us from being still fancy, but a little more Schmancy.
