The Heart Truth campaign was an original concept started in
Toronto, where its mission was to raise awareness of heart health in Canadian
women and donations for the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation to support its heart disease and stroke
research program. Part of the campaign was a fashion show, where local
designers use local celebrities as their muses to create one of a kind red
dresses.

Given Calgary is a city known to
be passionate about giving back to the community and has a big heart for
charity fundraisers like the Heart Truth, the campaign was brought to us thanks
to Jacqueline Tyler, Shahr Savizi, and Ashley Tyler who’d worked endlessly making the Heart Truth Fashion Show a successful
event last year. The second annual of Calgary’s The Heart Truth Fashion Show,
which happened past Saturday at 8th Ave Place, was no different
except maybe even better.
Twelve beautifully crafted red
dresses by MacKenzie Jones, Haithem Elkadiki, Ruby Johnson, Bellissima,
Danielle Cameron, Malika Rajani, Nicole Rita Tomney, Tracey
Wardkerr, Michelle Roberts, Lara Presber and Marsina King were showcased on the runway by twelve spectacular
women that represent strength, beauty and courage. One of the most unique
arrangements of the fashion show was the first woman on the runway, Sandra
Thornton, was a heart disease survivor, while the last woman, Anne Bosman was
an 84-year-old lady who had previously suffered from two strokes and recovered.
Both women showed tremendous strengths sharing their stories about heart health
and their will to live. This year’s Heart Truth Fashion Show also included two
honorary male guests: NHL Calgary Flames player Brian McGrattan who walked the runway with his wife and one of the
models of the fashion show Michelle
McGrattan, and proud event sponsor, Calgary-based Indy racer Ryan Verra sporting his cool style
along with Lisa Bowes who was
wearing Haithem Elkadiki’s design.

The Heart Truth Fashion Show had
also unified the community from different industries: There was some beautiful
culinary art that made my mouth watered; Amazing music performance by violinist
Sophie Serafino; I can’t be more
proud of my best friend Katrina Olson for
the amazing art work display she painted for this event. It completed the
fashion show with heart-felt-and-sweet note.
