Schmancy 2014 - Still one of the best parties in YYC

The highly anticipated fundraiser gala for the Glenbow Museum in Calgary - Schmancy - was held last night inside the Glenbow. Being named as one of the best fundraiser parties in Canada by the Maclean's Magazine, the third annual sold-out Schmancy gala had defnitely lived up to this title. And I am sure even Alberta's premier Alison Redford would agree, who've also made it to the event last night.
Host of the evening was Dave Kelly. Special guest speaker Bryan Adams was inivited to talk about his work and inspirations as a photographer to the audience. His photography collections "Exposed" and "Wounded" both of which are currently exhibited at the gallery, the rebranded Glenbow Museum takes the centre stage promoting Canadian arts and culture of both the modern and the classics. And who could not love the age of rock and punk pop-culture, as shown in another one of Glenbow's latest exhibitions - Worn to be Wild "The Black Leather Jacket".
Unlike previous guest speakers, this year's Schmancy's talk by Bryan Adams was somewhat emotional. We could felt the sincere passion for perfection in art, photography and music of Adams. His extraordinary experience with the personalities and people he had worked with and photography was truly remarkable.
The high energy Schmancy party attracted Calgarians from various backgrounds and industries. We even spotted supermodel Heather Marks who was an invited guest of Bryan Adams at the event. As like previous year, all three levels of the Glenbow was opened for fabulous live music, local foodies, bar cocktails, hands-on crafty arts, gallery exhibits, photo booths, silent auctions, special performances and DJ after party.
With three years of success, Schmancy has proven that YYC has the heart for arts and culture. It's important that we support organizations such as the Glenbow as these sectors represent our identity as Calgarians, or Canadians. Now that Schmancy became a tradition of Calgary's culture, we can not wait to see what it has prepared for us next year.
