IMG's Mercedes Benz StartUp is a national program that nurtures Canada's next generation of fashion designers. The semi-final competition is currently on the road to search for new talents that will continue to prosper original Canadian fashion designs. YYC is one of the city stops this year, which happened past Tuesday April 23rd. This season's semi-finalists include LUXX, Malika Couture, Rebecca King, Dreamboat Lucy, and Malorie Urbanovitch. Each fashion designer was given the opportunity to showcase eight pieces from their collection.
Malorie Urbanovitch Collection

The invitation-only event brought together Alberta region's fashion industry personalities. Unfortunately, due to my unforeseen delay at the recording studio that day, I was late and missed a big portion of the show (And because of that I didn't take many shots of the runway presetnation, but you can see some photos on Mercedes Benz StartUp Facebook page). I was however able to at least hear the announcement of the finalists from this competition. According to the judges, Dreamboat Lucy and Malorie Urbanovitch have the most coherent and best executed 8-piece presentation, and will advance to the final. Congratulations to both of them, and best of luck at the final in TorontoMercedes Benz StartUp will continue its tour: next stop is Laval on May 23rd, then Winnipeg on June 18th and Kitchener on July 11th. You can visit their website HERE for more info, as well check back on their previous seasons' winners.

Temple St Clair At Holt Renfrew YYC

Fine Jewelry Designer Temple St Clair Carr. Visits Holt Renfrew YYC
(photos by: Katrina Olson-Mottahed)
Past Wednesday, Italian fine jewelry designer Temple St Clair Carr. visited Holt Renfrew YYC introducing her current exquisite collection of Temple St Clair. The colorful gem stones, which were framed by classic but distinctive gold work, also known to be a signature of Temple St Clair, revealed an opulent essence that is timeless.
Temple St Clair is all about "modern classics jewelry with a story". This is evident to me in this collection showcased at Holt Renfrew, where I sensed the stories of ancient philosophy, spirituality and religion. My favourite piece was the pendant, which almost looked like the shape of a Buddha sitting with lotus pedals radiate around him.
Designer Temple St Clair Carr. believes that "a true jewel should give something special to the owner beyond its material value: a depth of meaning that is added to and passed on". Perhaps one of these pieces would be the perfect gift for someone who loves you dearly (*hint: Mother's Day?).

Carol Nemoto - "My Deer" 2013-2014 Pre-Collection

Carol Nemoto Launches 2013-2014 Pre-Collection "My Deer"

Fashion designer Carol Nemoto, whom my blog stumbled upon during SS13 Milan Fashion Week, and is now a dear friend of mine, continues to create a fabulous 2013-2014 pre-collection for her label Miwa called "My Deer". Unlike her previous collection, where architectural structures provided the overall framework of her pieces, "My Deer" takes on a more fluid and romantic aesthetic. This collection was recently previewed at the Warsaw Fashion Weekend in April (you can watch the runway show below). Also in her presentation, you'll see work from her previous collection in the first segment. I can sense that "My Deer" holds close to Carol's heart and it's a collection that is inspired by simplicity, romanticism, natural beauty, and calmness. Her new website Miwa Project is officially online - you can visit HERE to learn more.

Casa di Culture - "Brand For The Modern Nomad"

Casa di Culture
(photos source: Casa di Culture)
Buying unique one of a kind fashion pieces and accessories are as easy as ever, thanks to the develpment of the internet. It gives us the advantage, with all the options being offered, to build our personal sense of fashion and style. As a blogger who enjoys fashion, as well as art and culture, Casa di Culture is one of the online brands founded in 2007 by three sisters that captured my pesonality. Known as the "Brand For The Modern Nomad" - Casa di Culture represents "a segment of society that considers the world its meeting place, music its language and culture its religion. The sisters hand create statement pieces for the well-traveled individual that enjoys originality without compromising his or her own style".
The online brand offers simple casual ready to wear and hand-crafted accessories including tees, ties, pocket squares and bracelets at abosolutely reasonable price values. Every design consisted element of cultural identity and heavily influenced by music people love, and the experience as a traveller. One of my favourites is the Nomad Bangles ($12) created by reusable/recycled materials. It's fun, lyrical, and environmentally friendly.
I can't wait until Casa di Culture relaunches their new website in May, where they will announced new hand-made unique products. The Ambassador Skinny Tie ($36) for example is one of the newest line of designs available starting on May 1st by the brand. Casa di Culture kindly offers Binzento Vincente readers a 25% off when purchasing this colorful/vibrant Ambassador Skinny Tie - just input discount code: SKINNYTIE25 when check out - valid throughout the month of May.
