Moschino/ Moncler Gamme Blue AW13/14's Plaids (Men's Milan Fashion Week)

Plaids…are back again next AW
Moncler Gamme Bleu AW13/14 - backstage

Is it me or is the speed of recycling fashion trends accelerated on par with Apple launching a new phone? It seemed like only yesterday when plaids were cool. I still remembered wearing them during my freshman year at the peak of my love for Vivienne Westwood and reading religiously NaNa, a manga by Ai Yazawa where the fashions of her characters were inspired by punk/hippie Westwood looks often wearing plaids garments. Well Ai Yazawa may very well find collections by Moschino and Moncler Gamme Blue in AW13/14 men's Milan Fashion Week interesting.
One of the mangas I'd read during my freshman year - NaNa by Ai Yazawa often utilizes fashion pieces by Vivienne Westwood and punk/hippie inspired plaid garments.

SS13 we saw MOSCHINO had their runway set up like a supermarket/grocery store. AW13/14 continues to bring everyday lifestyle into the show by having a resto-lounge setting as the runway. Semi-formal/ former wear consisted fur collar long coats and tailored blazers with plaid details, and relaxed plaids trousers summarizing a heavy British flare.

Similarly, Moncler Gamme Blue AW13/14 was inspired with plaids and tartan, except they took it literally from the highland Scottish traditions, ie: kilts, sporrans and ghillies. The intense Scottish piper costume is in no way an everyday wear. To me, this collection is over redundant and is not something I would feel thrilled about. For those real Scottish pipers out there, you are way ahead of the game.
