PARKLUXE 2012 at Hyatt Mercedes Benz Auto Gallery Recap
(Photos: KO; Words: KO and Binzento Vincente; Edit: Binzento Vincente)
This year's PARKLUXE 2012 took place at the Hyatt Auto Gallery Mercedes Benz and was an unique and fresh venue to host Calgary's most anticipated fashion event of the season. I was unfortunately away this year due to a San Francisco assignment, but my lovely photographer/correspondent KO was kind enough to filled in my spot to capture the greatest highlights of this year's local designers: Caitlin Power, Anne B. accessories, Nicole Campre and Lauren Bagliore
PARKLUXE is a fashion show and art exhibition initiative featuring local designers and professional artists who share a common, high-end target market. The non-profit organization established to connect Calgary fashion and art lovers with sophisticated local designers and artists who were making an impact outside of our city limits and throughout Canada and North America. This year's PARKLUXE seemed more vibrant and energized than in the past. The poster/ad PARKLUXE 2012 campaign featured Kim Nosewothy from Sophia Models, beautifully captured by local artist/photographer Jason EngThere was a cocktail reception prior to the runway show and was full of the local "who's who" in the Calgary fashion scene:

The Show was opened by Caitlin Power, born and raised Calgary designer who now works out of her design studio in Toronto. Power showed a collection full of bold lines an geometric sewn patterns she in know for, and added delicate sheer feminine tops to this seasons collection. The Mens pieces seemed to be very streamline with Power's past collections that contained leather, heavier fabrics and detailed accents.

Anne B. accessories followed featuring some pieces that were unexpected and very exciting! Anne B. is based in Calgary, and designs handmade accessories from diverse natural elements such as wood, shells, resin, cow horns and turquoise stone. Some of her materials come from her native origin of the Philippines which is a nice exotic twist to add to the Calgary market. This seasons most exciting pieces featured were:

Third in line and new to the PARKLUXE show was Nicole Campre, for a relatively new designer, her collection was full of charisma. Pleats, Gold, Black and ruffles that took us back to a baroque late 80's Jerry Hall-esque experience. I look forward to seeing more from Campre and see how her style will evolve in seasons to come.

Last to present was Lauren Bagliore, who highlighted the show and the jackets in this collections were to-die-for!!! Bagliore is based both in New York and Canada, with a New York-style loft Atlelier in Inglewood that is by appointment only. The buzz heard after the show from the crowd was "I can't believe I have not heard of Bagliore before! Her pieces were so great", and "I need one of those coats!" It's good to have Bagliore to visit Calgary again since her last visit a year prior. Her designs are always inspirational with a Japanese culture twist.
Having covered a couple Milan Fashion Week shows, PARKLUXE was overall a top notched comparable fashion show of our city and had stepped up it's game. I was very impressed by the work that went into this years event. Thank you to the members of PARK for organizing such a wonderful event that represents Calgary
Few critcisms I heard from few people at the show were minor technical difficulties with the music. They wish that the songs for the runway show would be more captivating and cutting edge. Another criticism was some of the models did walk the full runway, which audience at the end of the runway had a hard time to clearly see the collections. Big hand claps on the venue, seating was professional, the sponsors did a great job of the swag bags, especially Jelly Modern donuts, Butter Beauty Parlor, Korres skin care, ROC skincare and Bernard Calibut.

PS: I love your Fairground dress and Anna Dello Russo for H&M ensemble outfit for that evening KO! FUN! You and Diva Lounge both looked great x
