Runway Monthly YYC August Edition

Runway Monthly August Edition
Past weekend was the 4th instalment YYC's August Edition of Runway Monthly. Like the last one, the fashion show consisted four local fashoin labels displaying their current designs and selections. The host of the evening was Beauty By the B beauty blogger and Swerve Magazine style writer Aldona B. I have to be honest that the show wasn't as good as I expected. There were some repetitive pieces on the runway which made it difficult for me to feel stimulated with interest through the entire show. Ironically on the flip side, I found the audiences were more engaged, and even humbly applaud in between models. I also began to see a new generation of fashionistas. It's a positive sign, and I was pleased to an emerging stylish individual in Calgary. Afterall, Calgary is listed as Top 5 cities to live in in the world in 2012. Here were the participating designers + boutique that displayed their collection at Runway Monthly:

Lauren Rebecca
Lauren Rebecca is a new Calgary based label designed by Lauren Enns, who was previously an intern for another local design Pout Clothing. Her first debut was at the SS12 Lethbridge Fashion Week. Her designs focus on casual wear clothing for women, which express simplicity with a bit of a vintage flare.
27 Boutique
27 Boutique is a new fashion boutique store in YYC, founded by two lovely ladies Candice Rhodes and Kelly Schneider. The boutique offers a wide range of labels and Canadian designs including Gentlefawn, Dionne Dionee, Ten Three Apparel and THML. Although they only showed women's wear during that evening, they carry men's wear as well. I have not yet personally been to their boutique, but their selections are well diverse and I am quite sure there are pieces suitable for different tastes.

Pretty Hipster
Pretty Hipster is an edgy design collection by 18 year old Maark Abeenir. There was so much energy and excitement by this young talent which could potentially be the highlight of the evening. I was happy to see Abeenir finding his identity in his current showcase, and also impressed with the maturity level of his work despite any prolonged experience. At his age, there is so much potential in him to explore and experiment in fashion, and I am sure with his passion and hardwork he will one day find his ground in fashion industry.

Beatrix
Beatrix is another local design that focus on vintage style blend in with high fashion image. The collection revealed sophiscation but not forgetting to express fresh playfulness in women. The collection uses source of dark shades and neutral colors, where some garments added with vibrant pattern details.
The next instalment of Runway Monthly will happen on October 20th, with host stylist Kim Flanagan. Be sure to check it out if you are in the city: http://www.runwaymonthly.ca
