Another Year of Calgary Stampede: Western Style Shoot/ Where to Find Quick and Fashionable Stampede Styles

It's that time of year again in YYC; Perhaps the biggest outdoor event in the summer - The Calgary Stampede. For readers who don't know, it's a western heritage (think cowboys) celebration, so expect to see rodeo, chuck wagon races and such. It's a 10 days event. Can't complain, it probably generate quite a bit of revenue for this city. Usually I don't care much of it, because it happens every year, and frankly every year is the same. I may however, give some of my undivided attention to this year's celebration because 2012 is the Centenary Stampede - 100th year anniversary. Maybe it is a big deal…but we tend to get over hyped about things just because it's the "100th year".  Added to the "unseen" excitement is that YYC has been selected as the cultural capital this year. With that being said, I am really hoping to see more cultural events happening this year that will live up to the cultural capital title.

KO and I drove all the way out to Balzac few weeks ago. Her aunt owns a ranch, and we decided to utilize our resources to do a little Stampede style photoshoot. The photoshoot was also intentionally for the CORE Shopping Stampede Style Contest
I have not been on a horse back ride in a very long time. For sure I was a bit nervous at first for the photoshoot, but KO's uncle was SUPERB helpful keeping the horse steady for me.
After the shoot, KO's aunt and uncle graciously invited us to their house porch for homemade deserts and iced tea. It was a really relaxing, sitting down by the sun with light breeze ease my mind from the everyday busy lifestyle I've been living. The shoot overall was fantastic. I never thought I would actually execute a "western style" shoot in time for YYC Stampede. Thank you so much again for photographer KO and her aunt and uncle for the help and support to make this shoot happen!

OK… so there are actually still few more days (July 6th-15th) before the Stampede celebration begins. Since it's the Centenary Stampede, there will be tourists from every direction visiting this annual event. I am sure many people have got their western attire all ready. Like I said before, Stampede happens every year, and I probably wouldn't spend too much money on western style clothes knowing the fact that I like to try different outfits each time. If you still haven't got yours, Old Navy probably has one of the best classic, quick and simple western style clothing selections. Check these out! :)
