Folk Fest Kick-Off at Sit./ Upcoming Festivals in YYC

It's starting to get to me for not having as much time as I thought I would have to update my blog here in Chicago. There is just so much going on everyday and there are so many things/people I need to do/meet. I shouldn't complain though because this trip so far has been nothing but EXCELLENT, and I can't wait to share my stories here on Binzento Vincente. I'd met so many people along the way, and chatted with various interesting individuals. I will start releasing my posts one by one here very soon :).

Tonight's post though is a bit overdue, since YYC's folk fest was officially over yesterday. Here was a kick-off event that happend at Sit. Interiors YYC prior to the festival. Sit. Interiors hosted a small party in celebrating this year's folk festival. They also organized an folk music album cover contest for the creative bunch. Eve Hell and The Razors performed some of their greatest songs at the party.
Eve Hell and The Razors

I felt kinda sad for missing the folk fest this year. My friends who'd went told me they had such a good time. Now that the folk fest is over, there are two other yearly festivals I am looking forward to in YYC, they are the Fringefest and Globalfest
Fringefest (August 3rd to 11th) is a week of artsy theatre performances where you'll be expecting to see the "unexpected" and the "uncensored" productions.
Globalfest (August 16th to 26th) as many YYC peeps know, it's an annual multicultural and international fireworks competition event. This year also marked the 10th year anniversary, which I am sure there will be some spectacular fireworks extravaganza. You'll be able to catch Binzento Vincente in both events :), so be sure to check them out if you have nothing planned in the month of August.

A Very Whimsical London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony: Let The Games Begin!

A Very Whimsical London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Binzento Vincente is currently away from home on the road in the US, but that doesn't stop me from keeping myself updated with the Olympics, an event that thrills me every time. It's one of those moments where I felt the world is physically coming closer together. I bet many of you have already watched the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony tonght. It certainly was an entertaining experience. Perhaps I didn't expect it to be so "whimsical"; A great contrast to the intensified performances Beijing had put forth four years ago in the 2008 Olympics. And of course, London got the luxury of having globally renown celebrities like Paul McCartney & David Beckham and fictional characters like Mr. Bean and James Bond... and last but not least, the royal family. Here are some recaps and my most favourite moments of the ceremony.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!
I personally have a few althletes that I am rooting for this year and I really hope they'll earn their deserving medal(s) for their country:

Valentina Vezzali
Country: Italy
Sport: Fencing

Ali Khousrof

Adam van Koeverden

Sport: Sprint kayak

Wang Yihan
Country: China
Sport: Badminton

Viktoria Komova
Country: Russia
Sport: Gymnastics

Matthew Mitcham
Country: Australia
Sport: Diving

Nathan Adrian, Brendan Hansen, Cullen Jones, and Ryan Lochte
Country: USA
Sport: Relay Swimming

Usain Bolt
Country: Jamaica
Sport: Sprint

I'll be keeping you guys up-to-date as to what's happening here in Chicago. :) Stay tuned!

YYC Salsa Fest 2012

Past weekend was the annual Salsa Fest in YYC. It seems like every year, the Salsa Fest occurs at the right day of the week where the weather is gorgeous. I found this year's participating vendors at the festival weren't as interesting as the ones from last year. However, there was a noticeable increase of the number of people attended this event. In addition, I found that there was a lot more street performances this year, especially music and dance.
Other performances include martial arts, and street paintings. Just going from one performance to another along the streets of Kensington pretty much took up a good hour and half. There was some pretty cool street styles (though not many), and mostly stylish hipsters. Unfortunately though, I didn't get a taste of the "main course" of the entire festival: the salsa. The line up was just way too long, and being as impatient as I was that day (with an increasingly packed schedule), there was no way I am spending a half hour to 45 minutes for it. I did have a good time snooping around, seeing old friends here and there. Salsa Fest has become more than just a festival about salsa, but a vibrant, multi-talented cultural event that invites everyone in this city to add in their yearly calendar.

Till then… see you next year Salsa Fest!
