Binzento Vincente x DRESS ME BLOG Collaboration = "East Meets West" Life of a Blogger

x
After the long wait, Binzento Vincente first blog collaboration with DRESS ME BLOG is finally out!
"East Meets West" Life of a Blogger
The girl behind DRESS ME BLOG, Jasmine Webster, is a New Zealand fashionista who now scouts and report fashion news and trends in Hong Kong.
DRESS ME BLOG founder Jasmine Webster

Jasmine has definitely made much contributions to the Hong Kong fashion community. She has established #HKFashionBloggers, an internet savvy community that brings all of the Hong Kong fashion bloggers together. She is also a style judge for a program on Fashion One TV called "Correspondent Search". Previously, she was nominated for Fashion Blogger of the Year in Marie Claire!

The project "East Meets West" Life of a Blogger is a highlight of per week activity of Binzento Vincente and DRESS ME BLOG. Jasmine and I realized there was an exchange of cultures between the two blogs; Her being a westerner, and is now living in Hong Kong, an Asian metropolitan, and me blending in the western culture in Canada, originated from Hong Kong.
"East Meets West" Life of a Blogger revealed both Binzento Vincente and DRESS ME BLOG day-to-day lifestyles. Of course aside from the "fun", we have our families, work, and relationships. What I realized though was that, although we are from different countries, and now living in opposite ends of the globe, we as bloggers share the common passion to create for our readers. My conclusion to "Life as (Serious Fashion) Bloggers" is "We all may have different tastes and expectations in fashion and style, but our honest soulful hearts to scout and create the best stories for our readers is absolutely universal."

Below is the breakdown of Binzento Vincente (Calgary, Canada) and DRESS ME BLOG (Hong Kong, China) per week (Monday to Sunday) activity.

Louis Vuitton F/W 2012/13 Collection/ Swirl Cakes 1st Year Anniversary

LOUIS VUITTON F/W 12/13
Upcoming fashion trend is being further retrograded. We had the 1980's, then the recent 1950's, now lets time warp back to the 1920's and 30's. Louis Vuitton F/W 12/13 collection revisited the "hard chic" and "feminine flutters", which made that era uniquely distinct than any other time line in fashion history.  Elbow length gloves and cloche hats were used and were something not to be neglected for this theme. Instead of excessive butterfly and banjo sleeves however, well tailored shoulders and structured ends were given to highlight non-antiquated designs, embracing modern women and power in femininity.
Louis Vuitton 12/13 Men's collection (shown earlier this year) was also astonishing. Again, reviving the 30's look adding twists of current innovative ideas to produce a modern style.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWIRL CAKES
Binzento Vincente was invited to Swirl Cakes' 1st Year Anniversary Party at Ubu Lounge past weekend. Swirl Cakes is a YYC custom cakes and cupcakes shop where the owner/baker Lynnette McDonald creates one of a kind cakes upon requests for her clients.
Ruby Elle & Binzento Vincente

Lynnette started making cakes 10 years ago, and now have become more and more skilled with fine details on each piece. This was shown at the event, where she specially made a New York fashion inspired mult-layered chandelier cake. Each layer was decorated with personal memoir of herself. The top finished with sugar ice cubes and champaign bottle, which looked very realistic.

Local fashion designer Ruby Ellen was also at the event. She had custom designed the pretty cobalt blue party dress for Lynnette that night.
On me...
Shirt: Zara
Scarf: Louis Vuitton
Sweater: Comme des Garcons
Pants: No brand from Thailand
Sneakers: Zara
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Thank you Swirl Cakes for the invitation to the party. I had a great time.

Walter Van Beirendonck Cheered Me Up/ Binzento Color Blocking Photos by Don Loyaga

WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK CHEERED ME UP!

I have not seen a single sunny day the past week here in YYC. The prolonged gloomy weather with alternating rain and snow literally drove me to a seasonal depression. To help boost my spirit up and drag myself out of the miserable mood, I tried to stay away anything that's black or any shades of grey. Referring to that, Walter Van Beirendonck was a great remedy to my recent depression problem. This Belgian fashion designer uses lots of bright, fun and child-like colours and designs that immediately paint my life back to happiness again.
The Plague Doctor

Walter Van Beirendonck is well known to incorporate "art" into his fashion pieces. Visually captivating, he uses strong graphic designs and unique colour combinations that makes his collections pops right out at your eyes and sinks right in to your head. Similarly, his Fall 2012 collection showcased bright sensual colours on traditional English gentlemen tailoring. The masks on models reminded me of a "plague doctor" during the Black Death in the 1300's, but this seemingly morbid imagery is reversed by the lively colours.
I love creative ideas coming to life and become innovative work. My likes of Walter Van Beirendonck began when I saw his 2010 fashion collection. I appreciate the vivid remnants of retro pop-culture hidden behind a bigger futuristic theme. :)

COLOR BLOCKING PHOTOS ON BINZENTO BY DON LOYAGA
Aside from reading more colours, wearing colours was also important for me last week to keep myself optimistic. Photographer and the guy behind The Street Snapper Don Loyaga, took a few shots of Binzento Vincente last week during the snow storm (I know, it's mid-April and we are still facing this uneccessary weather hardships here in YYC).
Ok! OK!… some readers asked me to do a style post… so here's the breakdown what I wore:
Sunglasses: Vblak
Leather Jacket: Style Auco (vintage)
Tee: 2cm
Belt: Gucci
Pants: Brotherhood
Bag: Alexander Wang
Sneakers: Vans
Bracelets: Esprit

I decided to COLOUR BLOCK to protest the gloominess inside me. Don Loyaga took a few candid shots outdoor, which was originally planned indoor. I told Don, "lets shoot a few in the snow". I mean I don't really care. Yes, it was cold, but it had to be done because I reaaaallly need to get out before I go crazy!
Don Loyaga is a great photographer :) He's done various editorials for fashion magazine before prior to coming to Canada. Nowadays, he shoots wedding photos and streets of YYC. Check out his blog The Street Snapper: thestreetsnapper.blogspot.com/ I was actually spotted by him last year :)

Liking the "Rocha's"

I've made a couple purchases of Simone Rocha, an Ireland based fashion designer, pieces last year to add to my fashion collection. I loved the way she utilized mesh materials to create the transparent free-flowing look, and sheer fabrics that characterized pure innocence. In fact, she has also been one of Lady Gaga's chosen designers for her fashion forward statement. Talent certainly runs in the family. Her father, John Rocha, a Hong Kong born fashion designer is also one of my inspirations.

Simone Rocha 2012 Collection

I find both Rochas' have very distinctive visions. While Simone Rocha uses a lot of cream colour, sometimes over-sized, and imaginative shapes in her designs, John Rocha primarily focuses on dramatic black cuts and sartorial elegance. His men's collection is refined and well tailored, displaying confidence, power and modern style. Below are some of the works in his Simone Rocha 2012 collection, for both men and women, during London Fashion Week. Currently, John Rocha store is located only in London, UK. I do hope that one day him and his daughter's work can spread to the audience here in North America. Perhaps expanding their showcase to fans like myself, and make these pieces easily accessible. :)
