Calgarians Bring Fashion Part 2 - BoopyDoodle & Pout Clothing

This is a part 2 of 3 "Calgarians Bring Fashion" mini-series blog entry, and I'm introducing BoopyDoodle Accessories and Pout Clothing. Before going into further, I am so so so excited that I made it to the TOP 5 Best New Canadian Blog nomination in 2011 Canadian Blog Awards.
Please show your support and vote for Binzento Vincente! Link below:

Also, I am thrilled to announce the next designer to collaborate with Binzento Vincente: mixed media artist KO for Binzento coming in 2012.
Be sure to come back and check out my "Binzento Archives" column, where I will post all of the designer collaborations and finished work with Binzento Vincente thus far!

Now back to the main story:

BoopyDoodle Accessories
What is unique about BoopyDoodle Accessories is it's classic cutesy European vintage crossover Japanese inspired Harajuku girls designs. Owner Amanda Quinn have only landed her first Canadian city - Calgary from Ireland about half a year ago. Brought with her are these colourful and boldly fresh accessories line from the United Kingdom
The presence of BoopyDoodle adds a daring alternative to the somewhat reserved Calgary fashion. Accessories line include necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins, rings… and stocks are frequently replenished with new designs. Price range from $10-$100, very affordable. One of the greatest things I liked about BoopyDoodle is its versatility to mix-and-match. Depending on the combination of accessories, it brings out each individual character. Although the accessories line serve mainly female fashionistas, I did find several unisex items and got couple of them :).

Pout Clothing
I adore local designs and here is another example: Pout Clothing design by Kristen Summersgill. The brand targets female audience to provide sophisticated and modern Calgarian style. Pout Clothing had participated both Vancouver and Alberta Fashion Week previously, and been featured in various fashion magazines.
To make it truly Canadian, Pout Clothing uses 100% Canadian textiles produced from Vancouver. leather from Montreal, and of course Kristen's designs and sewing skills from Calgary. Kristen learned sewing at a young age using her mother's sewing machine. After completing high school, she went ahead to attend and finish fashion design school in Lethbridge, and subsequently worked her internship with another local brand Broken Doll Clothing.

Kristen launched her own label Pout Clothing four seasons ago, and proven success by establishing her online store as well as placing her fashion products in several retailers across the country (literally from west coast to east coast).

Calgarians Bring Fashion Part I - Nuage 9 & ElectroFur

I have decided to do a three part mini-series of home-grown Calgary based fashion and art designers who has the passion and creativity to establish a true Calgarian culture. Let me introduce to my readers: Nuage 9 Handbags and ElectroFur Creations

Nuage 9 Handbags
Although Nuage 9 began creating custom made handbags for fashionistas about two years ago, it is not until recently Binzento Vincente met owner Hina Haq and her line of handbags. Hina started her handbag business by bringing imported leather and rhinestones decorated clutches to her friends and family. Due to the growing popularity for her handcrafted goods, Hina decided to expand further into a wholesale business. "Nuage" - translated from French to English meaning "Cloud" is a concept hoping to bring clients an attraction to Hina's handbags, and feel enlightened by these delicate works of art.
Being in the middle eastern background, Hina said that she is "one of pioneers" to bring her home country style of handbags to YYC audience. With a team of designers and craftsman back home, here in Canada Hina also said that she is also very hands on as the "creative director" behind Nuage 9 handbag designs. I find many of her handbags are very architectural inspired, and very focused with defined shapes. Many are outlined with elegant Swarovski and Austrian crystals. Handbag prices range from $40-$400, to accommodate affordability.
Recently, Hina also started a new line of top hats as well. She said it is still in the trial of testing her designs with hats, but from what I've seen so far, they are looking dashing good.

ElectroFur Creation
Similar to Nuage 9, ElectroFur is also something I came across recently. It began one day my Facebook friends started to "LIKE" ElectroFur, and advertisement kept popping up on my sidebar. It is not until I finally "met" ElectroFur and found that it is actually local Calgary based. Owners David and Nene created these unique one of a kind "glowing fur" fashion, a novel concept which I haven't heard of. It may sounds a little crazy, but these ElectroFur coats, hats, and scarfs are extremely fun. The glowing affects are battery run, which the creators took approximately 4 years to perfect the science of integrating flexible neon lighting hand woven through the fur.
Don't worry animal activists, ElectroFur uses faux fur materials and are 100% handmade in Canada, which is something I am extremely proud of. I especially like the leopard prints "glowing fur hats", it is something of a current trend in Japan for the last couple years. I couldn't help but to purchase one of them for fun.

ElectroFur concept promote "be who you want". The illumination of the fur garments catches everyone's eyes at parties or music festivals. They are definitely something to keep fashionistas happy even in the dark.. waaaaay better than glow sticks.

Diamonds are Everyone's Best Friend - Diamond Boutique

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas because I certainly did. :) Not that I had anything exciting to do, but relaxing at home with no plans, no schedule, just spending a good time with family was all I wished for. My sister and I ordered sushi from Misai Sushi as our little family non-traditional Christmas dinner, accompanied by a good bottle of California Napa Valley red wine. I actually don't remember when was the last time our family sat down together for Christmas dinner since I am always on-the-go. Maybe because I am becoming older, I feel the blessings and importance of having family time on special occasion.
Lots happened before Christmas, but I was so busy with work and haven't had the time to record them here on Binzento Vincente. :) The month of December is an eye opener month for me, mainly because I'd met so many wonderful and talented people (artists, designers, photographers and fashion entrepreneurs) here in YYC. Now that I am on a semi-Christmas/ New Years break, I am going to share with my readers over the next few days.
Efrat and Dror Lahav

Binzento Vincente was invited to Diamond Boutique first year anniversary party. Like Marilyn Monroe sang: "diamonds are a girl's best friend", so which lady (or gentleman) doesn't want diamonds for a holiday gift? Owners of Diamond BoutiqueDror and Efrat Lahav, have worked diligently with the international diamonds industry and are well connected to find these stunning gems. With their expertise, they are able to offer affordable fine jewelries, which range as low as between $90-$200, while providing top notch service to their clients.
In addition to diamond accessories, the store also launched a new line of silver jewelry, Officina Del Tempo watches and, pearl products. My favourite got to be the black pearl studs and necklace, which I still need to find time to head down there for them soon! Diamond Boutique also offers custom made jewelry services for people who love exquisite one of a kind piece.
Calgary Fashion Chief Editor: Kimlee

Blogger: Mr. Fabulous

It was a great night meeting new people and jewelry experts. Binzento Vincente is always thrilled to see familiar faces like stylist Polina Brener, Kim Flanagan, Domingo Lumanog, the Calgary Fashion team, blogger Mr. Fabulous. I like to thank Dror and Efrat for their wonderful hospitality and Jason Krell for the invitation. Although I don't believe "diamonds are forever", I do agree with Diamond Boutique's philosophy: "where emotion is invested, value (will definitely) follows". Why not go there and see it for yourself (Boxing Day perhaps?) :)

Proj Leap of Faith: hollymacaroni Stuart Chen x Flesh Imp Collaboration

Flesh Imp is a Singapore based street wear label, which I have been followed since my high school days… say in the early 2000's :). The brand was found by the dynamic duo Vincent and Nicholas who both boldly connects music and style into their fashion designs. Their philosophy of "style independence" have attracted global labels, such as Adidas, Hypebeast, and G-Shock Casio for collaborations (Stay tuned for more on their upcoming feature in Binzento Finds…).
Recently, they have also collaborated with studio hollymacaroni's Stuart Chen, a diverse photo/videographer from Singapore to create Proj Leap of Faith
Watch the video of Proj Leap of Faith

The Proj Leap of Faith is a support of local Singaporean talents, utilizing 100% local crews in fashion, modelling and photography. Their focus is to show the vibrant, colourful accent and bold graphics in Flesh Imp's latest seasonal collection.
"For the mens collection, we are looking at preppy shirt, combination street smarts with ballroom grandeur, without the stiff upper lip. Prints also take on the quirky side, but tucked on the slimmer Flesh Imp 'soft-feel' tee. For the ladies collection, we also take on the same approach of elegant dresses, with a quirky twist." said Nicholas of Flesh Imp.
The project was completed and released on December 17th. Photo/videographer Stuart Chen said: "The concept behind this (photoshoot) film is that runway, it does not necessarily only happen on a grand stage of a mall or ballroom, but it can actually take place in our day-to-day lives as well". He added: "'Fashion', should not be something unreachable; but it is about being part of our lives".
Binzento Vincente is all about support up and coming talents. Stuart Chen have placed a great deal of creativity and vision into the Proj Leap of Faith. Flesh Imp newest street wear collection continued to leap into the "independent style" statement, which  faithfully exert the energy style they'd envisioned.
